Why NORMAXIS

The architecture of a property project has changed. The org chart carrying it has not.

Six obligations stacking up, ten providers around the table, and nobody whose job is to hold them together. This page sets out what we do differently, and why it changes something on a real project.

Preamble, 2026

A discipline that prepares, without diluting.

Artificial intelligence is starting to enter building engineering. Assistive tools are appearing for thermal modelling, sizing optimisation, document pre-analysis. They are still immature, weakly standardised, only partially reliable, and their professional use demands constant vigilance.

At NORMAXIS, calculations are performed by engineers. RE2020 studies, carbon LCAs, acoustic simulations, MEP sizing: every result carries the named responsibility of a professional who interpreted and signed it. We will integrate AI tools as they become trustworthy, with the same discernment we apply today to a regulatory calculation software.

This doctrine protects our clients on three fronts: technical quality (no study released without human validation), legal responsibility (named signature, court-admissible) and strategic trajectory, the day AI produces studies that are genuinely reliable, our teams will have kept the competence needed to supervise them.

Choosing NORMAXIS means choosing a group that distinguishes what can be assisted from what must remain human, and never sells one for the other.

    On-site acoustic acceptance

    ARKENOR

    NF EN ISO 16283. An engineer, a sound level meter, a signature. DnT,A and LnAT measured on site, contractually opposable at delivery.

    RE2020 air infiltrometry

    ARKENOR

    QUALIBAT 8711. Measurement of Q4Pa-surf with blower door, identification of envelope defects. Physical, quantified, contractual, no RE2020 compliance without this test. (RE2020 is France's 2020 environmental regulation for new buildings.)

    Ventilation airflow measurement

    ARKENOR

    QUALIBAT 8741. On-site verification of regulatory airflows (DTU 68.3, French order of 24 March 1982), dual-flow balancing, casing inspection. Ventilation is not calculated: it is measured.

  4. 04

    Pathology thermography

    ARKEMEP

    Infrared diagnostic on existing buildings, thermal bridges, insulation defects, hidden infiltrations. An engineer's eye reads the thermal signature; no algorithm does.

    LCA tracking during construction

    ARKEMEP

    Actual EPDs vs EPDs declared at planning permission, arbitration of material substitutions, monitoring of cumulative variances. Only an engineer on site guarantees that the delivered LCA reflects the building actually built.

    Technical OPR and shop drawing approval

    ARKEMEP

    Pre-handover operations, snag closing, contractor interface, execution visa. AI prepares the findings; the engineer carries the design-and-supervision responsibility on site.

    Effinature / BPS biodiversity inspection

    IRICE

    Field audit performed by named inspectors: fauna and flora surveys, remarkable trees, soils, on-site verified nesting boxes. ISO/IEC 17065 and the IRICE certification rules require this human presence, no satellite data or AI model can replace it.

    Annual review of the IRICE system

    IRICE

    Annual system review by the IRICE chair (procedure 02), ISO/IEC 17065 internal audit, external assessment of the IRICE certification scheme at the IRICE headquarters. This cascading control, documented, opposable, gives IRICE certification its legal value.

    Judicial expert work and witness testimony

    ARKENOR ARKEMEP

    Named responsibility, irreplaceable by nature. Adversarial acoustic / ventilation measurements (ARKENOR) or energy and LCA expert work (ARKEMEP) depending on the nature of the dispute.

Three ARKENOR acts, three ARKEMEP, two IRICE, one mixed. The distribution is not random: ARKENOR concentrates the court-admissible regulatory measurements on existing and new building stock (acoustics, infiltrometry, ventilation), ARKEMEP carries the design-and-supervision responsibility on site (thermography, on-site LCA tracking, technical OPR), IRICE delivers the final legal value through ISO/IEC 17065 certification. Judicial expert work, by nature, mobilises all subsidiaries depending on the dispute.

IRICE, a NORMAXIS subsidiary, is the group's independent third-party certification body for the Certification of Products, Processes and Services under NF EN ISO/IEC 17065. The ARKEMEP and ARKENOR subsidiaries, and the NORMAXIS holding company, do not operate in third-party certification.

The usual arrangement

Six obligations, ten providers, and nobody at the table whose job is to hold them together.

Faced with this stack, the reflex is to stack providers: a thermal engineer, an acoustician, an ecologist, an environmental client adviser, a verifier, a reporting consultant, and so on. Each is competent. Each is good in their column.

The problem is in none of the columns: it is between them. Ten participants means forty-five possible bilateral relationships — that is arithmetic, not a research finding: n(n−1)/2. Nobody is mandated to hold them, and the client ends up doing the coordination work themselves, on subjects where they have no means of arbitrating.

What this produces is familiar to anyone who has run a complex project: diverging assumptions between the thermal model and the carbon model, an ecological calendar discovered after the planning application was filed, an ESG indicator nobody knows how to feed because nobody was asked to produce it, and trade-offs taken by default, for want of anyone able to say what each option costs elsewhere.

Our answer

Three trades, one discipline, one referent.

We did not add another provider to the table: we brought the chain together. Three trades, carried by three entities, under a single discipline — that of evidence — and under a single framework contract for the client.

  • ARKEMEP designs and sizes. Thermal, carbon, acoustics, building services, indoor air quality, photovoltaics. This is the trade that sets the assumptions.
  • ARKENOR verifies and advises. Client-side project management, environmental certification, ecological surveys, measurement and diagnostics on the built asset. This is the trade that tests the assumptions against reality.
  • IRICE certifies, separately. A third-party certification body, bound to impartiality by the standard that governs it, and for that reason strictly walled off from advisory work.

That third point is not an organisational nicety: it is what gives the first two their value. How the separation between advising and certifying is maintained is set out on our architecture.

What it changes

Five concrete effects, on a real project.

  • Trade-offs are taken with their consequences. An insulation choice moves the carbon figure, summer comfort and sometimes acoustics. When all three sit in the same house, the trade-off is posed whole rather than discovered downstream.
  • The programme accounts for the living world. Ecological surveys follow a biological calendar that cannot be compressed. Building it into the project timeline early avoids a deferred planning application, which is the costliest and most frequent consequence.
  • One referent carries the chain. Not ten reports to reconcile, and no responsibility diluted between participants who hand the assumption back and forth. The client has one interlocutor who answers for the whole.
  • Measurement and study are held by the same house. The assumption set at design stage is verified by teams who set it, with the same measurement equipment. The deviation surfaces during construction, when it still costs little, rather than three weeks before handover when all that remains is to document it.
  • Evidence is produced at the right level. Air permeability testing under QUALIBAT 8711, ventilation checks under QUALIBAT 8741, acoustic measurements and completion certificates in the format your technical inspection body, your insurer and your investor expect.

Our place

We take nobody's place.

The architect designs the building and carries its architectural intent. The contractor builds it. We make what one commits to and what the other delivers dependable: we set the technical assumptions, we verify them on the built asset, and we produce the documents that establish them.

One last thing, which explains the name rather than the positioning: NORMAXIS is rooted in a real constellation, Norma, the square catalogued by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in 1752, and in five layered readings of the word norm. That story has its own page — our name.
