Reading and preserving ecological continuities

TerraLink structures the analysis of ecological continuities (green and blue network). ARKENOR conducts the associated ecological expertise, in design.

Reading and preserving ecological continuities

The green and blue network, ecological continuities at project and territory scale, is becoming a design parameter. TerraLink structures this analysis, backed by ARKENOR's ecological expertise: surveys, habitat characterisation, corridor mapping.

TerraLink is a tool under development, operated outside the certification scope. The associated ecological expertise is a matter of design and advisory (ARKENOR), separate from any certification assignment.

Frequently asked questions

A framework for analysing ecological continuities (green and blue network) at project and territory scale, backed by ARKENOR ecological expertise. A tool under development, outside the certification scope.
Through ecological surveys timed to the relevant seasons, following the applicable norms.

Purpose

A site is a fragment of a network, not an island.

Assessing a site on its own boundaries misses what matters most for biodiversity: whether species can move through it. A parcel of modest ecological value can carry a corridor whose interruption affects habitats well beyond it, and a rich parcel that is already isolated may contribute less than it appears.

TerraLink is our method for reading a site in that wider frame: identifying the reservoirs and corridors around it, establishing where the real continuities pass, and translating that into design constraints and opportunities.

Use

Regional mapping is coarse; the corridor is located on the ground.

Planning documents map the green and blue network at regional scale, which is too coarse to position a hedgerow or an opening in a fence. Field verification is what turns a mapped intention into a design instruction.

The output is used twice: to inform the layout, and to evidence connectivity commitments in the environmental file, where they will later be verified on site, by a site ecologist, against what was actually built.
