In Paris, the office projects of the Grand Paris frequently target several schemes at once, and the indoor air aspect is examined there with rigour. On the major refurbishment of the Haussmann stock and changes of use, the ventilation is constrained by the existing building, which shifts the effort towards product specification. The IAQ simulation makes it possible to objectify these trade-offs at the design stage and to produce the indoor air quality plan required as a prerequisite by BREEAM Hea 02.
In Paris, the indoor air quality of a new building is decided at the design stage, through two levers: the specification of products according to their emissions health labelling and the design of the ventilation. The simulation estimates the predicted concentrations and produces the technical justification expected by certification schemes, before choices are locked in.
