In Limoges, acoustic design encounters two situations uncommon elsewhere. On the one hand the ceramic and porcelain industrial fabric, whose production halls and firing installations constitute continuous sources subject to the rules applicable to classified installations and to neighbourhood noise. On the other hand an old building fabric in granite masonry, whose mass offers favourable airborne sound insulation but whose timber floors transmit impact noise strongly during conversion into housing.
