RE2020 Thermal Study

In Lyon, in climate zone H1c, the RE2020 combines heating demand that is still significant with summer comfort that has become decisive: the city is among those most exposed to heatwaves, and the degree-hours threshold is regularly reached on the exposed façades of dense developments (Confluence, Part-Dieu). Dynamic thermal simulation arbitrates between thermal inertia, solar shading and night-time ventilation to avoid systematic air conditioning, while the carbon component (Ic construction, Ic énergie) steers the materials. We produce the RE2020 calculation, the STD, the ACV and the Bbio and completion certificates for Lyon projects.

Summer comfort is the sticking point of the RE2020 in Lyon: on exposed façades, the degree-hours (DH) threshold is quickly exceeded, all the more so in the south of France. Dynamic thermal simulation arbitrates between thermal inertia, solar shading and natural ventilation before the building envelope is fixed.
