RE2020 Thermal Study

In Béziers, thermal studies are conducted in zone H3, with a summer comfort challenge that dominates the calculation and a particular constraint on the refurbishment of the old town centre, where the thermal inertia of the existing masonry is an asset to be valued rather than neutralised. Wine-making operations form a second segment with requirements of their own: temperature-controlled wine cellars follow a process logic, with temperature and humidity setpoints that the regulatory calculation does not cover and that call for dedicated modelling. We carry out the RE2020 calculation and dynamic simulation while clearly distinguishing these two registers.

Summer comfort is the sticking point of the RE2020 in Béziers: on exposed façades, the degree-hours (DH) threshold is quickly exceeded, all the more so in the south of France. Dynamic thermal simulation arbitrates between thermal inertia, solar shading and natural ventilation before the building envelope is fixed.
